As the world changes and evolves, more people are realising the importance of reconnecting with nature as a means of rejuvenating their batteries and bringing themselves back to a state of equilibrium amidst the fast pace of the modern world. If nature is what you seek, the Sunshine Coast has no shortage of wonderful natural areas to take in some greenery and dip your toes in the water. Visitors from Brisbane and further afield are discovering why the Sunshine Coast is the place to visit for a weekend getaway to relax and take in the wonders of nature. A variety of economical sunshine coast accommodation options are making it easier for families to get back to nature and rediscover what is really important in life.

Fraser Island

Located approximately 200 km from Brisbane, Fraser Island is the largest sand island in the world. The Heritage listed site has miles of sandy beaches opening to an abundance of plant life, with rainforests, eucalyptus woodlands, mangrove forests and peat swamps to explore. It is home to a diverse variety of bird and animal life, including salt water crocodiles which are known to inhabit parts of the island. With more than 100 freshwater lakes across the island there is an abundance of opportunities to enjoy nature and get back to basics.

Glasshouse Mountains

The 11 mysterious hills that comprise the Glasshouse Mountains rise up from the pineapple and poultry farms of the region, like monuments over the landscape, a testament to the Indigenous folklore of their history. The hulking frame of Mount Tibrogargan sits with his wife Mount Beerwah, as if almost watching out to sea, with his back turned from his ‘son’ Mount Coonowrin. Discover the magic of the changing landscape as the sun rises over the spectacular Glasshouse Mountains from the lookout points near the Maleny town ship, in the Sunshine Coast hinterland. Located just a short drive over the hills from Nambour, the Glasshouse Mountains are a wonderful place to get some perspective on life.

Noosa National Park

The 4000 hectare Noosa National Park is located 121 km from Brisbane, near Noosa Heads, comprising a vast array of natural sights to immerse yourself into, from beaches to wooded areas. Visitors to the area enjoy the opportunity to explore the many beaches with fishing, snorkelling, rock climbing and fishing just some of the ways to spend a day in the lush parkland area with over a million visitors every year. Located only a short drive from many economical sunshine coast accommodation options of the hinterland, the Noosa National Park is a must see day trip while staying on the wonderful Sunshine Coast.
